To wear body jewelry one must first get body piercings,Basic information about body piercings and body jewelry Articles as much as they are painful and take some time to completely heal. Body piercings can be made on many different parts of the body including ears, tongue, navel, lips, nose, eyebrow and nipple among other parts. There was a time when body piercing was so much in style, but just as the trend had emerged, so it lost its luster. However, recently the trend has made a major comeback and body jewelry is back in vogue.

In the good old days body piercings were more of a cultural thing rather than an accessory. It was the tribal communities in Africa and other parts of the world that pierced their ears, nose, lips and tongue. This culture was first noticed and adopted by gay males after the Second World War. In fact there was a period when any males who wore body jewelry were considered gay. The trend has now gained acceptance across the board.

The time for healing the body piercings varies from person to person but mostly depends on the area that is pierced. For instance a navel piercing would heal faster than an ear piercing. As much as it is called a navel piercing, it is not the actual navel that is pierced but the upper rim of the navel. With a navel ring, there is a selection of body jewelry to choose from. But it is advisable to wear the barbell ring until the piercing heals completely. The belly button ring is by so far the most popular. Due to the growing demand a wide range of belly rings in silver and gold have been designed.

In some religions body piercing is outlawed. This is because they consider the body to be sacred as it is a gift from God. As such the body must not be desecrated in any way by piecing it. Some employers are also cautious of the growing trend in body jewelry and have set a limit on the number of body piercings that should be displayed at the work place.

When piercing your body, it is important that you know the demerits. First and foremost, if you are allergic to the metals that are used to make body jewelry you may end up with severe allergic reactions, frequent infections and scars. All these can be avoided with the help of professionals.
