The building block was designed to be a toy for children. It was discovered that these toys that involve creativity have enormous benefits for developing children. Building blocks were therefore intended to be an educational medium. There have since there been developed a variety of building block sets,Building blocks are good for the development of children of all ages Articles which are also ideal for children of any age.

When choosing building blocks for small children you need to bear in mind the safety of the child. Bigger blocks would be more suitable for them as opposed to small ones because there is less danger of fitting the blocks in the mouth and possibly chocking on them. It is also prudent to ensure that the blocks are soft. They should be soft enough not to hurt the child but not too soft that they cannot be used to build thus not providing the same developmental benefits.

Bright colors are really stimulating to children and blocks with printed letters of the alphabet and numbers would be a good choice as they familiarize children with the alphabet and numbers.

The most important thing about building block sets is that they help children learn how co-ordinate at an early age and their motor skills are also developed. The sets are designed in such a way that there is a set for every age. For small children a simple building block set would be ideal. They come in different lively colors and in a variety of shapes and sizes. The more a child grows the more challenging the sets become. For the older children, a complex system of blocks would be more stimulating. The blocks for older children often come with ideas of construction accompanied with instructions. It is always very exciting when the older child constructs a robot or tank, by simply following instructions. Building blocks therefore teach children to follow instructions too.

With the increase in challenges there is also an increase in a child's development of skills. When the children are young they learn hand eye coordination. As they grow they learn finer skills and cooperation when working with other kids and more still improves their dexterity.

Unlike other toys that get destroyed easily, a building block set may last for so long and be handed down from child to child, still in perfect condition. Building block sets never get boring. They can be constructed, torn down and reconstructed again. All that is needed is creativity.
