NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Chet B. Simpson in the Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. The exhibition opens May 19, 2017 and runs through June 8, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 25 from 6-8 pm.
“My inspiration comes from the world,” Chet B. Simpson says, and in his photographs, that inspiration takes many forms—from images that turn the environment being photographed into an abstract pattern to shots that capture the appearance of the natural world in precise detail. Whether he is taking a close-up shot of a flower in bloom, or is turning his camera toward complex architectural structures, he has a sense of proportion and scale that gives each image a feeling of harmony and powerfully engages the viewer.
A self-taught artist, Simpson uses his mastery of composition and exposure in pictures that bring out each scene’s underlying sense of movement. Printing on both paper and Plexiglass, he expertly employs long exposures, creating soft blurs that give his photographs a shifting sense of texture and add a level of complexity. He also has an innate understanding of how changes in light can alter the way we perceive forms and patterns, often recasting the same scene in several distinctive ways. Simpson lives and works in Middletown, New York.

About the Exhibition
Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography
Agora Gallery brings digital photography to the forefront with Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. This group exhibition collects six artists with wildly different storytelling goals. There are two landscape photographers, one of whom transforms the landscape with fantastical perspectives and one who captures the land in harmony with its human inhabitants. There is the photographer working with modern symbolic imagery revolving around consumerism and health issues. There are two abstract photographers who work with exposure and saturation to create textures. There are also two artists who portray cars and buildings as living, breathing things. Illumination is an exercise in unusual points of view.
