The latest models of RC helicopters are fixed with gyros – an electric device fixed between the tail rotor controller and the receiver. It controls the signals which are not directed from the controller on the ground to the receiver. These abrupt undirected signals can make the blade and rotor take sudden torque speed leading to sudden controlling mal-functions. Nevertheless,RC helicopters - learn tips and fly sky high Articles if the RC helicopter is one that has gyro device, it will not allow helicopter to create unnecessary speed or torque due to unregulated signals.

Before, radio commanding RC helicopters to fly users should check and adjust them on the ground to assure the controllers work in accordance with the signals to take right movements. In this way, most malfunctions that happen when the helicopter is in the sky could be avoided. In static position, the hovering of the helicopter has to be checked whether any peculiar noise or malfunction is visible. In fact, an amateur RC helicopter flyer should train in hovering first to know the basic function of the hobby before undertaking advanced activities.

Before starting to hover, it is advisable to make sure that there are no people around the RC helicopter. At the same time, the controller of the helicopter should also be away at least 10 metres from the helicopter. Before lifting the RC helicopter, signal to spin the main rotor, check whether it works according to the command given. Thereafter, lift off the RC helicopter about 10 cm from the ground and try to familiarize with its movements in accordance with the commands directed at it. It is better if a more skilled flyer is present with the amateur to show how to lift the RC helicopter off the ground. In this way, sudden diving, side propelling etc., can be prevented patiently and slowly, the amateur can learn the basic flying steps of the RC helicopters.

It is recommended to train to hover 4 inches above the ground at least five six hours before advancing to higher steps. A collective radio command can bring down the RC helicopters to the ground smoothly if the helicopter is a little above the ground but that is impossible for a beginner when the RC helicopters are about 3 metres above from the ground. Sudden panic or the incorrect command can propel the helicopter to fast dive to the ground. Such happenings may cause severe damages to the helicopter due to its tough impact on the ground. Therefore, it is necessary to train to hover just above the ground and then increase the height a few centimetres and again familiarize with the commands and the way the helicopter moves with commands. Only after training enough, amateurs should increase the height and employ more advanced commands.
