NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Alaleh Ostad in Pathways. The exhibition opens September 26, 2017 and runs through October 17, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 28 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
The inspiration for Alaleh Ostad’s paintings can be found in nature’s beauty, but as her career has progressed the way in which that inspiration is realized has changed. Having long painted watercolor landscapes, Ostad was encouraged by an art historian friend to make her images abstract, a shift that she says let her “paint my feelings and not my thinking.” While she will often take a photo of a particular spot she connects with it, her goal is not to simply duplicate the look of the scene. Rather, it is to translate that connection into an image that communicates the essence of the landscape.
Working in oil on canvas, Ostad employs many skills in her work. Her background in sculpture helps her bring the three-dimensional aspect of each painting to life, as well as to create a dynamic sense of texture. The daughter of a prominent calligrapher, she incorporates the swirling lines and precise meanings of that form into her images, giving them a clarity and openness that pulls the viewer in. The artist lives and works in New York City

About the Exhibition
Pathways
Pathways is a group exhibition that blurs the boundaries between fantasy and reality through a survey of the works of twelve artists. The exhibition considers how a variety of media, including paintings, sculpture, digital compositions, photography, and multimedia collages, can intertwine both the everyday and the ethereal into a collection of dynamic compositions.
