Information about Blu Ray technology.

The digital world demands picture quality, and that quality depends on bit rates.  Bit rates are the number of bits (information storage) that are processed and conveyed per unit of time.  DVDs are capable of delivering 8 megabits per second, and  HDTV broadcasts can reach 10 megabits per second.  Blu-ray Disc beats them all with 48 megabits per second, and it can also provide 1080p display resolution.  1080 represents the lines of vertical resolution, and the letter p stands for progressive scan.  The term 1080p is also referred to as full high definition.  With 1080p resolution, your viewing experience will be at the best available on the market today. 

Blueray Disc also offers superior audio sound.  Concert videos and music videos will sound incredible with this new technology.  The biggest buzz about blueray is the quality and capacity of storage it is able to hold.  The blue laser technology allows up to 50 GB of storage, about 5 times the capacity of DVDs.  The blueray disc players are equipped with internet connectivity, high definition bonus features, and integrated games.  If you want to sit back and enjoy your movie, you will receive a great movie experience, or you can navigate through the film with live updates or live events that are built into the blu-ray disc. 

Blueray has the most products to choose from at its launch than any other disc format that has been introduced.  It has support from many of the major entertainment and electronics, computers, videogames, music and movie companies. The blueray system uses backward compatibility so that you can still use your existing CDs and DVDs on the blueray players, gaming consoles and blueray disc drives.  

Where can you find blu ray products?  Already many retailers are selling blu ray movies in their stores.  The blu ray players, recorders, drives, writers and other media products can be found from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Philips and pioneer stores throughout the US and Canada.  These first generation blu ray products are quite expensive.  In the near future, with product supply and demand rising, the price should fall fairly quickly.  As production volumes increase, the actual production costs of the players and hardware should go down and the price will eventually be comparable to DVDs.
