A good artist usually has some type of background in computers and must be able to pay attention to details so that their finished product is a good likeness of the object that they are trying to portray.

A Good Work Ethic

It takes more than just a pencil and paper to create a 3D model and the results take some time. Sometimes when you are perfecting your animated model, it could take days or weeks as well as drawing and acting to make sure your piece is finished. There is no room for laziness.

Be Able to Accept Criticism

Other artists will review your work and sometimes they can be the harshest critics.

Not only are there certain qualities that you must possess, but also you need certain skills to get into the 3D model industry. Some of those are modeling, where you create the mesh and rely mostly on your personal methods; animation, which takes a 3 dimensional object and makes it move, therefore, creating cartoons by manipulating an object one frame at a time; texturing, where you manipulate the mesh and change its features through shaping and paint; and rendering, which is the final process and usually done by the professionals, as it requires placement of cameras and lighting to create the special effects.

When becoming a visual arts professional, you will need to complete courses and work with professionals in the industry so that you can be the best you can be in creating a 3D model.
