There are millions of reasons to go to the Dallas fair: fried everything, rides, games of chance, football, agriculture, the sky tram that carries you from one side of the fair to the other…
But don’t forget about the architecture. Actually, you can’t. It is impossibly gorgeous and, for me, anyway, it’s the best thing about the fair.

David Bush and Jim Parsons have a new book about the stunning Art Deco structures on the fair grounds, built for the Texas Centennial Exposition of 1936.

Fair Park Deco (TCU Press; coming in October) is a visual history of the art and architecture of the exposition, which helped Texas commemorate the 100th anniversary of its independence from Mexico.
Sixty percent of the exposition facilities were built to serve as the home of the annual State Fair of Texas. Today, of course, the exposition grounds are known as Fair Park, a National Historic Landmark District that honors America’s golden age of world’s fairs.
