Whoopi Goldberg is an unforgettable name in its own,Whoopi Goldberg - A One Of A Kind Entertainer Articles but the person behind the name has literally made a name for herself.  Goldberg, born as Caryn Elaine Johnson, is an American comedian, actor, singer-songwriter, political activist, and now talk show host.  And since coming into the spotlight some 25 years ago, she has never faded.

Born on November 13, 1955, it took 30 years before Whoopi Goldberg would make her film debut in a little movie called The Color Purple.  This 1985 classic has her playing the role of Celie, who is a mistreated black woman in the Deep South.  Her performance was so powerful that she actually received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress while also winning her first Golden Globe Award for the role.

One of her most infamous roles in time came in 1990 as she partnered up with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in Ghost.  She starred as Oda Mae Brown, who is a psychic helping a slain man find his killer.  She was yet again recognized for her work as she won her second Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In the years to follow she has been in a plethora of notable movies, some as the star as others as a cameo or voice over.  Some of the more recognizable films include the likes of Sister Act and Sister Act 2, The Lion King, Made in America, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Rat Race.  Her most recent role is in the lovable animation Toy Story 3.

There is no doubt that she has been a coveted actress for countless roles over the years and is highly decorated as recognition.  She has been nominated for an astounding 13 Emmy Awards for her work in television.  She has a Grammy, two Emmys, two Golden Globes, a Tony and an Oscar to her name.  On top of this, she has a British Academy Film Award and four People’s Choice Awards.

If that doesn’t speak volumes, she is one of the outstanding entertainers to be honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  And the icing on the cake is Goldberg being one of the few entertainers to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.

While she still picks up little roles here and there in movies, like Toy Story 3, she is primarily busy acting as a moderator on the daytime talk show The View to this day.  The show began in 2007 and has generated tremendous viewer interest and appeal over the few years.  And as for Whoopi Goldberg, she shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
