Appian Way Ancient Rome,All about Appian Way Ancient Rome Articles which was the biggest and most powerful country in the world more than two thousand years ago, had such wonderful roads that some of  them still exist and are usable. Some historians think the great roads had much to do with making Rome so rich and powerful.

The most famous of these roads was called the Appian Way. The building of it began about 300 B.C. It was paved with heavy blocks of stone, and was about as wide as a modern twolane highway. The Appian Way ran between the cities of Rome and Capua, in Italy, and from time to time other stretches were added to it and were also called the Appian Way. It was named after a Roman ruler named Appius. Altogether, it came to be about 350 miles long.
