Every colony of ants has its cjneeti,All about the queen ant Articles which may live ten years or even more. If it were not for the queen, there would be no colony, because all the ants in a colony are the "children" of its queen. She founds the colony in the first place, and after the moment when she chooses the place where she wants to make her home, she spends her entire life laying eggs. She never leaves her home again, and when she finally dies, the colony leaves the old home for good setting up housekeeping with a new queen in a different spot.

The queen ant originally has wings, and she uses them just once. This is when she goes on her "nuptial flight." This is a house-hunting and mating flight, when she mates with male ants and chooses the place where the colony will live. Once she has chosen the spot she will not need wings again, so she rubs them off before she starts her life work of egg-laying.
