The head of the government of Alberta is a lieutenant-governor, who represents the British Queen. He is appointed by the Canadian government. The province is actually run by a Prime Minister. He is appointed by a legislature, which is elected by the people. The Prime Minister has a cabinet, just as the President of the United States has.

He stays in office as long as he can keep the confidence of the majority of the legislature. The legislature is elected for a five-year term. Judges are appointed by the Canadian government in Ottawa, and hold office permanently. The provincial government is in the capital, Edmonton. Everyone has to go to school between the ages of 6 and 16, and there are many fine grammar schools and high schools all through the province. The University of Alberta is the only university. In 1952 it had 3,608 students
