Save money by using these techniques to reduce your energy usage in your apartment or home.

Are you looking to reduce your energy bills in your apartment or home. All it takes is a little effort and you will be able to reduce your electricity usage and save money on your monthly bills immediately. Be sure and follow these tips to keep a little more money in your pocket every month. And whats even better, you probably won’t even notice the differences at home.

Refrigerators can use as much as 20% of your total household electricity each month. Have you check what the temperature settings? They may be set incorrectly. This could be burning more energy than you really require.  Some professionals state that settings in the refrigerator should be between 38 and 42 degrees. And the freezer should be set somewhere in the neighbor hood of 0 and 5 degrees. Many refrigerators will have energy saver settings. If yours does be sure and turn it on.

Make sure your gasket is in good shape. If it does not keep the seal tight, it might be releasing cold air. Some people use the dollar bill test. If you can stick a dollar bill between the gasket and the refrigerator, it might be time for a replacement.

Wash your clothes with cold water only. Hot water will increase your energy bill. If your clothes state warm water you probably will be just fine with cold water. And don’t select large load when you only have a few items to wash.
