Albuquerque is the biggest city in New Mexico. It is on the banks of the great Rio Grande river,Where is Albuquerque Articles and it is a very beautiful place, with wide streets, gleaming white buildings, and palm trees and lovely flowers all year. Many people go there during the winter because it is always warm and sunny. It is about 5,000 feet above sea level, and the air is so dry that even on the hottest days it is comfortable.

Spanish people settled Albuquerque first, more than 200 years ago, in 1706; the name Albuquerque is Spanish. Mexico is only about 200 miles away, and there are many Mexicans in the city. They wear gay, bright-colored shirts and bandannas. There are usually cowboys around, too, because there are many large ranches outside of Albuquerque. The Pueblo Indian Reservation is nearby. Though its population of 96,000 does not seem large in comparison with eastern cities, Albuquerque is the main shopping center for people who live on ranches and in smaller towns for miles around.
