It isn't surprising that carport kits are a popular option in the U.S. For a long time,Carport Kits by ShelterLogic Articles America has, on average, had at least two cars per household. We managed to avoid this statistic for years by having just one car, and didn't get a second car until my daughter turned 16, and spent her hard earned cash of $1000 on a car that was as old as she was. It wasn't too much later that my husband got a motorcycle, after all, you have to do something like that when you turn 40! We also had a little utility trailer that sat at the side of the driveway. In a few short years, we had joined the ranks of millions of Americans and had accumulated extra vehicles. The 1970's house we were living in had a two car garage, but we drove a large Suburban, so with storage, the motorcycle was all that would fit in the garage. Like many others we were looking for alternative storage to protect our vehicles.

With only a little bit of looking around, we found some great carport kits. These kits have many advantages, a few of them are:

  1. They are easy to set up.

  2. They offer your car year round protection, from winter's inclement weather, and from the damaging affects of the summer's UV rays.

  3. Besides protection from the sun, it also gives you a bit of shade so that your car doesn't get so hot inside.

  4. You can set them up most anywhere. A concrete slab is great, but not necessary.

  5. If you move, you can take it down and move it with you.

Deciding to purchase a kit was the easy part, the next thing to do was to decide what brand of carport kits was best for us. With a little looking, we found ShelterLogic. They have been around for about 20 years, and have been a pioneer in the instant garage and instant canopy segment of the market. Their headquarters are located in  Connecticut, and besides some manufacturing done in the US, they also have manufacturing plants China.

When it comes to carport kits, they have two main lines that you should consider if you are in the market for this type of item. The first is their Carport-in-a-Box, and the second is their Garage-in-a-Box. Both come in a variety of sizes. The primary difference between the two is that the carport kits have a steel frame that easily slips together for quick set up, and then it has a polyethylene cover. The cover goes over the top of the frame and part way down the two sides.

The garage style has a stronger frame, and is fully covered with a triple layers polyethylene that is rip-stop tough. One end has a roll up door for easy parking. These come in three different styles or shapes: 1. Peak shape, which has a gable design. 2. Barn style, which provides more useable headroom. 3. Round top.

Regardless of what you want to protect, carport kits are the way to go. They offer great protection from the weather, are easy to set up, and you can take them with you when you move. For us, one of these was the answer to our problem.
