Choosing The Right Nursery Furniture Set For Your Baby

o    For your child to sleep in, you will have to first choose between a crib and a bassinet. The difference between the two is in the size as well as in the length of time your baby will be using it.

o    Bassinets are smaller and can only be used for a few months. These smaller baby beds however can be placed near your bed without taking too much space and may make them feel more secure since these are cozy and small, much like a womb.

o    A crib, on the other hand, can be used until your baby enters their toddler years. Some cribs can even be converted into a toddler bed with a few adjustments. When you buy a crib, make sure that the mattress you get with it is a perfect fit and is firm enough to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), which is often caused by a too soft mattress or other bed items that can cause suffocation.

    Changing Tables

o    As always, safety is first and foremost here. When you choose a changing table, make sure you get one that has a guardrail, safety straps, and are sturdily constructed.

o    Guardrails on your changing table should be at least 2 inches all around.

o    Straps should be present to ensure that your baby does not twist around while you are changing their diapers. If one is not present, make sure you add one.

    Rocking Chairs or Gliders

o    This one is mostly for your use. While rocking chairs are fine, a safer alternative is a glider. These chairs are used when you want to feed your baby (breastfeeding or bottle feeding) and when you want to put them to sleep with a gentle rocking motion.

o    Choose one that you will be comfortable in since you will be spending a lot of time in it. Find one that is also durable so you can spend time with your child while sitting in it till they are toddlers. These chairs will be great for you to use when reading stories to your child when they are already toddlers.

    Diaper pails and hampers

o    To ensure that you do not end up making your baby’s room smell like poop and pee, a good diaper pail is needed. Find one that uses regular garbage bags but can still contain the smell that comes from used diapers.

o    Find a good hamper that can also keep some of the smell contained. Choose one that is color coordinated with your nursery furniture set and sturdy enough to be used for years.
