After the full term pregnancy period is over that is 38-40 weeks then the mother is ready to deliver the child. The mother gets contractions which means the labor is starting. The three important stages of natural vaginal child birth delivery are-

  • Dilation- The cervix is dilated. The actual labor happens when the cervix is dilating and the membrane rupture might happen at this stage. The complete dilation of the cervix happens when it is fully ready to allow the head of the baby to come out. For a full term baby it dilates about 10 cm.
  • The second stage is when cervix is fully dilated and this stage ends when the baby is born. The pressure on the cervix increase and uterine contraction occurs and thus the fetus moves downwards and then it starts coming out of the vagina. At the end the baby completely comes out of the vagina.
  • During the third stage of labor the umbilical cord is closed and placental expulsion happens. The umbilical cord is clamped and even if it is not clamped and cut it closes naturally at this stage. After the birth of the baby it takes at least 10-12 minutes for the placental expulsion.
