The moment that we saw pogo sticks,Flybar – A Product of Intense Research and Development Articles we were at awe at the engineering marvel.  Really, who would have thought that something like that will come to existence in our lifetime?  Everything about the design doesn’t make sense.  It’s a straight, thin stick and we’re supposed to jump up and down on it?  Surely, the developers never took balance into consideration.  But through the years, we were proven wrong as the popularity of pogo sticks skyrocketed and millions of kids and adults experienced first-hand how it is to jump up and down on an engineering marvel.

Although it looks like a rocket scientist made it, that’s not really the case.  If you’re among the tens of millions of people who have great memories with pogo sticks, then you have SBI Enterprises to thank as they were the ones who came up with the first pogo stick.  The company out of Ellenville, New York has been in existence for 87 years ever since they first came up with the popular toy back in 1918.

You can see the importance of a great research and development team.  It can be said that everything starts there.  It will be very hard to succeed in business, especially in the toy industry, if you don’t have a great research and development team.  It doesn’t matter if your company has the latest in technology and you have the most efficient workers.  If you don’t have a good team that takes care of research and development, how can you come up with great ideas that you can turn into reality?  Fortunately, SBI Enterprises had the brains to come up with the now legendary toy.

But as they say, nothing is constant in this world.  Demands for the toys change.  There are also newer toys in the market that challenge the existing ones.  This is why companies shouldn’t stop improving unless they want to be called one-hit wonders.  Fortunately, SBI still has a great team and together with Bruce Middleton and Andy Macdonald; they were able to come up with Flybar.

Flybar is the reinvention of the popular pogo sticks.  At first, it would seem unnecessary to reinvent them.  After all, they are still well-loved.  However, it’s hard to argue once you see the brains behind it.  Of course, SBI knows the toy like the back of its hand.  Bruce Middleton is an inventor that came up with better technology and Andy Macdonald is a champion skateboarder.  With the 3 brains, a more fun pogo stick was born.

Flybar brought pogo sticks to new heights – literally.  Before, you can jump up and down and that’s already tons of fun.  But with the new models, gravity is defied.  You can say that they’re more fun now and that’s a product of intense research and development.
