Bar Mitzvah Planning Tips

The theme of your Mitzvah should be decided first; it will help make further planning decisions. The guest of honor should decide on the theme. Their interests, favorite things, or hobbies can be used as the theme. The theme can vary widely based on your child interests. Favorite movies are a popular theme such as Grease or Wizard of Oz. Elements from the movies can be used as decorations for the event. For the Wizard of Oz theme your guests can enter your venue on a yellow brick road and use props that you supply such as witches hats, magic wands, and ruby slippers. For the Grease theme your guests can be encouraged to dress the part in 50's style clothing. The venue can be decorated like a 50's style dinner with pink, black and white streamers and balloons. A sports theme is great for your sporty child. The guests will have a ball playing a variety of sports and games that can be easily managed.

Another popular theme is the childhood theme. Since this is a time to leave childhood things behind why not have fun doing it one last time. Disney, childhood toys, or Mother Goose stories are some of the things which can be incorporated into your event. A candy or Candyland theme is also always a big hit. Centerpieces and decorations can be made to look like candy and the guests enjoy eating all the candy that they receive throughout the night. A Clue or Nancy Drew theme can also be chosen for your Mitzvah’s theme. Guests can be assigned characters and can try to figure out “who done it” by following the script and clues.

A couple games should be placed throughout the night with prizes for the winner. A trivia game can be played with the question being about the guest of honor or general trivia questions. The participants can be divided into teams and the team with the most correct answers wins the prize. A scavenger hunt can be played with the participants trying to find certain items throughout the room. The contestants can form a circle holding hands and try to pass a hula hoop through the chain without breaking the chain in a human hula hoop race. Games such as limbo and a dance contest require no real setup and can easily be fit into any time line. No matter what the theme or which games you play as long as the night is about the guest of honor the night will be a great time for all.
