India is famed for it clothing from simple garb that stretches around the whole body to complex garments that have evolved though centuries. The fashion designers have also created their own version of Indian dress and saree besides lehenga choli,Indian Sarees from different regions Articles kurta paijama to what not.  
The most popular dresses in India are the sari, kruta pyajama and lehenga choli. In terms of numbers sari wearers beat others out right. Sari is a simple piece of cloth draped around the body such that only the neck and back remains bare. The dress appears to be cumbersome and very difficult to wear. But this is a false notion since Indian women pick and wear this dress in few minutes besides the petticoat and blouse that accompanies it. 
Saree in India has evolved right from the ancient times probably the Vedic Era. The garment has taken to regional changes with passage of time. Local specialization has also taken place with niche weaver creating their own styles and patterns. One fine example of this are Chanderi and Maheswari from Madhya Pradesh and Patan Ka Patoda from Gujarat. But these are specialized hand woven saris worn mainly on occasion and festivities. The cost of such products in India is very high and hence rich women wear it the most. The raw material ranges from cotton to silk and the product may be further embellished with zari work or Bagh prints. Sometimes mirrors are also used as embellishment. 
The sari in India has mind boggling variety and has undergone transformation from traditional to designer wear. Types like Banarsi, Georgette, Chiffon, Silk, Cotton and Synthetic sarees are popular not only in the country but all over the World.  The fashion designer has been successful in introducing the garb in many countries especially in UK and USA.        
The garment worn in Indian states differs substantial along with the style and the way it is adorned. Some manner of wearing and style is typical to various communities in the state. As the popularity of the clothing increase there will emerge greater variety of sari from India.
The fashion designers have given new shapes and styles to the garment. This has attracted many women to the product who wear enamored by Western clothing. It today ranks high among the fashion garbs and is much in demand. The boutiques online and in many foreign countries have further highlighted the clothing to increase its demand.
