The antique shape

Many people say that they want everything to be ultra modern, and that is especially true in their bathroom. They want everything to be made from brushed steel and chrome. I can agree that the look has its merits, but as far as I am concerned there is nothing to beat the antique look, and as far as the bathroom is concerned that means lots of old-fashioned porcelain and so on.

Of course the main focal point of the bathroom is the bathtub, and when you are looking to recreate an antique feel in your bathroom, a feel of days gone by, then you really should be looking at no other style of bathtub but a clawfoot bathtub. There is something about this style of tub, especially the ancient slipper tubs with the rolled rim, that really sets of a bathroom no end. And when the bathtub is an original clawfoot tub, with the right feet, and especially when you set it on a pedestal, you have the ultimate in antique charm in my book.

Of course, having an original porcelain bathtub, usually made in cast iron, has its price, and not only in dollar terms. A traditional clawfoot bathtub is usually made of iron, and therefore you really need to make sure that you have a strong floor when you come to have one installed. Luckily there are several styles of reproduction slipper tubs that give you the look without the weight. And the reproduction bathtubs are a lot lighter in price too!
