A building block is basically a part of a set of blocks that are designed for children to play with. From ages, children have been given these sets to build and learn because of their very clean, direct and safe approach towards building fine skills in children.

The first reference to the building block was made as early as 1639 by John Locke who was an English Philosopher. After that there have been mentions and findings throughout history of the presence and widespread usage of these blocks.

·         Creativity and free thought development: One of the most inherent benefits of this building block, creativity grows because these blocks encourage children to think differently and allows them to make any sort of form from their imaginations.

·         Attention span development: Children learn the importance of paying attention to the entire process, the continuous monitoring of the structure and also any changes that are to be made. This basically leads to an increase in their attentions spans and their analytical thinking abilities.

·         Development in concepts of weight, size, design and gravity: Handling these blocks enables kids to differentiate and understand various physical dimensions of size and weight and also allows them learn about all the physical factors that govern their functions.

·         Vocabulary development (when alphabets shaped blocks are used): This skill is developed because kids learn to differentiate and identify the different letters of the alphabet and this helps them in their future reading skills.
