The Essential Wooden Block for Children

The wooden block or the wooden building block is more than just a toy for children.  It is an essential learning tool that will aid in the developing mental processes of a growing child, or even a baby.  These blocks are very essential toys that they should be valued over other toys that have less educational impact on children. 

The wooden block is made of pure hardwood.  It is meant to last and will last for a long time if it is cared for properly.  However, one should take extra care when allowing very young children or babies to play with wooden building blocks as they might hurt themselves.  Aside from that, you’ll be please do know that wooden building blocks can last for years so there’s no need to buy another set when a second or third child comes into the family. 

The wooden block is not just a blank piece of wooden cube.  Ever wondered why blocks are vividly coloured?  Blocks are vividly coloured because this is also one way to stimulate a child’s learning.  A child’s imagination will be fuelled by the different colours.  They’ll learn to play or organize colours any way they want to.  Soon enough, they’ll be asking the names of the different colours and will know what the different colours are before even going to school.  There are also other wooden blocks that have numbers on them.  These numbers are also used to teach children.  With these numbered blocks, a child can start off learning how to count.  As time goes by, you can add blocks with simple mathematical equations on them like addition or subtraction.  In this way, the child can learn to solve simple equations, such as 2+2=4.  Of course, you’ll also notice that there are blocks that have letters printed on them.  These blocks are, of course, used to teach children the alphabet and to create simple words. 

You’ll also be surprised to know that wooden blocks can help babies, too.  With blocks, babies can enhance their grasping skills faster.  However, it is not always advisable to allow babies to play with blocks that are wooden as they might end up hurting themselves.  There are blocks that are made of other materials that are more suited for the purpose.

The wooden block has definitely evolved over the last few years.  Back then, the wooden block is usually limited to the shape of a cube.  Today, however, the blocks are a lot more imaginative.  Not only are they vividly coloured, but there are blocks of different shapes and sizes, as well.  There are cylinders, pyramids, and different geometric shapes.  There are even blocks that are shaped like animals.  All of these are done in order to increase the interest of children on blocks and further fuel their imagination.
