Who can remember a time when the only way to keep warm in winter was to have a huge number of blankets on the bed? In those days sleeping in winter meant almost crushing yourself to death beneath a huge weight of woolen blankets, cotton sheets and then possibly a comforter on top of that. Luckily times have changed, and now it's possible to keep warm without having a heavy weight pressing on you all by. And the way to do it is look at the huge range of duvets that are now available, or continental quilts are they were once known.
There are really only two choices to be made, and that is between a synthetic duvet and a natural filling duvet. If you want the natural filling it can either be goose down or duck down, with the goose down duvets often having a slightly higher rating in terms of keeping warm. But duck down is also a good choice and can be a great way to keep warm on those cold winter nights.
If you want a slightly cheaper duvet, it is probably a good choice to go for one of the synthetic fillings. The advantage of these is that they can be more lightweight than the natural counterparts. They also have the added advantage of being cheaper in some cases, and can even be machine washable. This can be a great help when you need to clean the duvet, since it does away with the need for dry cleaning.
So if you find that the weight of blankets is weighing you down once the weather turns cooler, take a look at the range of modern duvets that are now available. You'll sleep better and still keep warm into the bargain.
