Vacuum Cleaner and Allergy Prevention

Sometimes it seems awkward. You clean your room with a vacuum cleaner to remove allergens. As soon as you turn the vacuum on, the next minute you begin to sneeze uncontrollably. Can vacuuming the house worsen your allergy symptoms?

On the other hand, not vacuuming builds up those allergens too. Obviously not the way to go. It might not be obvious, but it's quite simple. The problem lies in the standard filter that most vacuum cleaner use. While cleaning the floor, some particles are released back to the air after going through a filter. HEPA filter can help because it uses highly compacted filter medium to filter the exhaust air.

How much less allergens can a HEPA filter trap? It is able to remove 99.97 percent of the dust, mold, bacteria, pollen and any airborne particles down to 0.3 microns. No wonder it's so much different.

Choosing the right vacuum cleaner should not be based on what others think is best. Don't pay attention just to the feature list, but more on the functions. The first thing you should check is if the vacuum has HEPA filtration feature. That's not all though.

Many cheap vacuum cleaners on the market do include HEPA filtration. The thing is, not all HEPA filtration vacuum are created the same. How the machine is actually built may or may not meet true HEPA standard. The filter may trap the particles, but some of them still get through the cracks and around the filter.

Precision during construction is necessary. Such vacuum cleaner will be labeled as HEPA certified.

Vacuum cleaner doesn't solve all the problems though but it certain helps in reducing allergens and make the room healthier for sufferers. Wooden floor is also recommended as it doesn't trap debris.

If you have carpets, go through it slowly. Using fresh bag will make sure you get the best suction possible. Also, before you decide on which vacuum cleaner to buy, check if it is suitable for the type of floor you own. Make sure it has the option to switch between carpet and hard floor settings.
