* Chromosome problems

They are also termed as DNA blocks. Detailed instructions are contained in it. Wide range of factors is contained in it. There should be 46 chromosomes in the baby for being born normal. 23 should come from the sperm of father and 23 should come from the egg of the mother.  Sometimes, things will go wrong during conception. Various chromosomes are not received by fetus. Most of the miscarriages are associated with these problems.

* Placental problems

It is the organ through which the blood supply of the mother is linked to her baby. If there are developmental problems of the placenta, miscarriages can be caused.

* Age
  • If women are under the age of 30, only 1 among 10 will experience miscarriage.
  • If women are in the age of 35 to 39, 2 out of 10 pregnancies will lead to miscarriage.
  • If women are over the age of 45, more than half of the pregnancies will lead to miscarriage.
  • Obesity is another risk factor which leads to miscarriages many a times.
  • Smoking during pregnancy also leads to various complications in the pregnancy.
  • Sometimes, women have to face various problems due to drug misuse.
  • Sometimes, more than 200 mg of caffeine are consumed per day. There is 75mg of cocaine in one mug approximately.
  • Sometimes, more than 2 units of alcohol are consumed in a week.
* Long term conditions of health

There are various health conditions for long term through which the risk of miscarriage is increased. These conditions include:-
  • Poorly controlled diabetes
  • Hypertension or very high blood pressure
  • Lupus in which the healthy tissue is attacked by the immune system.
  • Disease of the kidney
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Infections
The risk of miscarriages may be increased due to various infections. These include:-
  • German measles or rubella
  • Bacterial infections
  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • HIV
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
This is a condition where the ovaries are very large than they are actually. Various hormonal imbalances are caused inside the womb. This is one of main causes of miscarriage. It will have a link to increased risk of miscarriages.
