The safest way to make your home a fortress is by installing a home security system in your house. This is almost mandatory in most neighborhoods, even in gated communities. Not only will your insurance rates go down, but most burglars will skip houses that have security systems installed and choose ones that don’t.

Unfortunately,Your Home is Your Castle: Make it as Safe as a Fortress Articles in today’s world, you can’t ever be too safe, even when you are in your own house. No neighborhood in the world is entirely immune from crime. You can live in a house that is in a gated community and you still have to take precautions to keep your family and home safe from crime. You simply cannot wait for your home to be burglarized before you take action. You need to be proactive and secure your home so you can live there in peace.

The best way to make your home a fortress is to install a home security system in your house. This is almost mandatory in most neighborhoods, even in gated communities. Not only will your insurance rates go down, but most burglars will skip houses that have security systems installed and choose ones that don’t. You simply cannot match the level of security that a home security system provides because you will have someone watching over your home at all times of the day or night, something that is impossible for you to do on your own.

Besides having a security system installed, there are other preventive measures you should take to make your house as safe as a fortress. First, pay attention to your locks and doors. All exterior doors should be either solid wood or metal. They should be equipped with deadbolts that have at least a one-inch throw bolt. You should also have a lock set in all doorknobs. Strike plates should be heavy duty and have four-screw holes and three-inch screws. Install a peephole that includes a wide-angle. It should be mounted at a maximum of 58 inches. Make sure to keep an eye on your locking mechanism so it doesn’t become loose.

Your windows also need to have locks installed and should only open a maximum of six inches. You do not want thieves to be able to put their hand through the opening and unlock the window. Place bars in the sliding track of all windows and doors that slide open so they cannot be slid open from the outside.

Install motion-activated lighting around the perimeter of your property. The beams of these lights should light up a 100-foot area and should be triggered with any movement. Make sure to change bulbs as soon as they go out so your home is never left unlit for any amount of time.

These are some basic suggestions on how to make your home your castle. By taking some proactive steps, you can make your house secure and keep you family as safe as possible.
