Look into the background
The city has been built on the banks of the Sabarmati River and has sustained human occupation since the 11th century. From that time it has been ruled by different factions of people and it was named after the Sultan Ahmed Shah who seems to have foreseen the glorious future to rename it after himself, thereby linking himself with it for eternity. It gained fame as the premier textile producer of the country and till date it one of the large scale producers of different fabrics such as denim. The industries of the state are greatly influenced by the convenience of location and its past connections with its colonizers. The city is also known for the export of the gems and jewelry and quite noteworthy is its recent emergence as the most preferred area in India for the establishment of automobile manufacturing plants.
