In 1980 my insurance company tried to cancel me. They claimed that I hadn't made a payment but that was impossible. It was obvious to me that it was a screw up in their department. Everything was fine till I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and they had to pay and boy were they paying.

What I found interesting was every once and a while I would not get a bill. But because I could not afford to lose my insurance you can believe I sent the payment in,Almost Taken In By Bad Insurance Articles in advance and by certified mail. I felt pretty confident and continued to be covered.

One day I get a certified letter from my health insurance company, thinking it was finally a bill but instead it was a cancellation letter. Officially on suspension and to be canceled in ten days.

Did I forget to send a payment? Was it late? I pulled my back statement and after some digging I found all the canceled checks to be prompt and paid in full. I was on the phone asap to determine what their problem was. The insisted that they were right and I was to send copies of all the proof I had.

A month went by and I finally heard from them. They admitted their fault and assured me it would not happen again. Not even six months went by and a certified letter hit my mailbox again. Yes it was another attempt to cancel my health insurance and the reason was same as before, no payment. At this point I was outraged, I pick up the phone and really tore into them. But like before they needed the proof and I was not up for it. Aside from threatening them with bodily harm they were going to hear from my lawyer.

So I had my attorney write them a letter. We stated that we were reporting them to certain agencies that would not take lightly to the standards of practice. They also knew that we had them beat so they would also end up paying legal fees. It was not long before I got a call from a very apologetic company and I have not heard a peep from them since.
