Loss assessor starts its operation when an accident occurs and insurer lost his/her any property in that accident.  It is must that the loss which is occurred should have monetary value.  The first step of loss assessor is evaluating the loss.  A loss assessor evaluates loss done to people or property when any mishap occurs that is being claimed on insurance. For an example if a motor vehicle damaged due to accident, the loss assessor would go to the accident spot and inspect the vehicle to conclude the amount of damage done to the vehicle. After calculating the amount of loss he reports the information back to the insurance company.

The loss assessor would first confirm that coverage for the damage is covered through the insurance policy the insured person holds with the insurance company. A loss assessor will inspect who is legally responsible for the damages caused and make compensation to the insured person for the damages based on the damages to person, or property.

After the assessor is done with the investigating the claim, and has discuss payouts between the insurance company and the insured party, they may also make proposal to the insured party concerning safety measures against further damage or loss, such as installing security, stronger doors or better locks, which can be required before the insurance policy is renewed again.
