Located off Hwy 41 in Mt. Pleasant,Rivertowne in Mt. Pleasant, SC Articles Rivertowne is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Charleston and about 10 minutes from two of Charleston’s best beaches, Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms.  Home prices start in the $200’s and go up to almost $5 million.  Rivertowne is one of the most popular communities in Mt. Pleasant because it has a great selection of affordable homes and some of the nicest amenities in the area.

Rivertowne is divided into two main subsections.  Rivertowne Country Club boasts a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer.  This is a semi-private golf club which offers membership options, but walk-ons are welcome, too.  The golf course hosted the LPGA Tour in May 2007, and it’s received awards from Golf Digest and The Post and Courier (Charleston’s main newspaper).  The course also offers great marsh views since 13 of the 18 holes are played along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek.

Rivertowne has one of the nicest club houses you’ll find among all of Charleston’s golf communities.  Weddings are often held in this beautiful plantation-style club house, and it serves as a backdrop for the country club’s other amenities.  A large swimming pool and additional kiddie pool are located adjacent to the golf course and club house, and you’ll also find tennis courts and a children’s play park.

The other main subsection is Rivertowne on the Wando.  Although you’ll find marshfront homes in both sections of Rivertowne, the Wando section is primarily a waterfront community.  There’s a huge community dock with great deep water access, and a large park overlooks the Wando River.  This section has its own amenities, which include a pool, a small club house, and tennis courts.  Most of the homes in this section are within easy walking distance of the amenities, making access very convenient.

Homes in Rivertowne Country Club are more varied in style, ranging from traditional to classic Low Country with large front porches.  Also, the lot sizes tend to be slightly larger (average lot size is about .3 acre).  In Rivertowne on the Wando, you’ll find charming traditional styled homes with an average lot size of about .2 acre.  Directly on the Wando River, there are select homes with classic Charleston architecture and spacious lots that are about half an acre.

If you’re looking for a newer home in Mt. Pleasant, I’d certainly recommend taking a drive through both sections of Rivertowne since this is consistently one of the favorite neighborhoods among home buyers.  Both subsections are equally nice and well-maintained, but they appeal to two very different groups of home buyers since one revolves around golf and the other revolves around the waterfront.
