Santa Barbara Homes Show Many Architectural Styles

Santa Barbara has many different styles of architecture sprinkled around the city.  From Spanish Colonial to Craftsman, Santa Barbara homes run a wide range of diverse architectural ideas.  A walk around this dynamic city shows a number of different styles and looks, allowing home buyers to find their dream home regardless of what kind style of building is preferred.

Spanish Colonial is the architectural style most associated with Santa Barbara homes.  A great example is the Town Hall downtown as well as the Santa Barbara Mission. With arches, courtyards, plain wall surfaces and tile roofs, Spanish Colonial is a romantic look that does well with lush gardens and outdoor living.

Another popular style in Santa Barbara is Victorian. This is a wide ranging style that usually includes gables, shingled insets, bay windows, a variety of roof lines and free style decorations.  There are some beautiful examples of Victorian homes along De La Vina Street and a visit to the Simpson House Inn or the Cheshire Cat Inn will reveal some beautiful Victorian charm. A number of Victorians have beautiful gardens and charming fences and gates that add to their beauty.

Santa Barbara has a number of Craftsman style bungalows that bring clean lines and beautiful workmanship to many neighborhoods around town.  With built in bookcases and details that exemplify hand crafted excellence, Craftsman have a very distinctive look.  Several different examples dot the city and a good example of the look is the White Jasmine Inn.  Another lovely building is the Tiffany Country Inn, which demonstrates the attention to detail that makes Craftsman architecture so elegant.

Modern architecture is also represented in Santa Barbara.  With blurred boundaries between inside and outside, bold angles and lines, and eco friendly materials and functions, modern styles are truly exciting as well as a great glimpse into where architecture is headed next.  The Blade House is a good example of Santa Barbara modern design as well as some of the hotels in town.
