It’s often been argued as to which are the better drivers – men or women.  Statistically speaking,Understanding Girl’s Car Insurance Articles women cause fewer expensive accidents than men.  That doesn’t mean women are better drivers, it just means that when they get into an accident it doesn’t cost as much to fix the damage.  Women tend to get into inexpensive bumps and scrapes whereas men tend to get into much more tragic accidents that cause thousands in damage and loss of life.

Because women cost the insurance companies less money in the long run, this is the number on reason they are offered lower premiums.  However, even though they start out ahead it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t still shop around.

Another reason women get a break on premiums when it comes to accidents is because they are less likely to be the cause of an accident.  Generally speaking, when an accident occurs it is deemed to be the fault of a man.  Men tend to be more impatient, speed more, and also tend to drive with less caution.

These traits also make women more lucrative to insure.  In addition to this, women also usually will get mileage discounts.  They simply do not drive as often or as far as men do – even if they commute to and from work.  If you drive less or at least less far from home you have a lower chance of getting into a wreck and the insurance companies like that.

Again, just because women will likely be faced with lower premiums than the average man that doesn’t mean that they can’t get an even lower price.  If you’re a new driver of any age or under the age of twenty five it would be a good idea to drive a car that is rated low.  The rating scale is from 1 to 20.  Staying lower than 10 will benefit you greatly.  You might be wondering what this rating means in terms of makes and models.  A 1 might be a hybrid where a 20 could be a Ferrari or a Dodge Charger.  Safe and sensible is better than fast and high powered when it comes to insurance costs.

The more years you go without making any claims on your insurance or being involved in an accident (the insurance companies usually can find out even if you don’t file a claim because you may be involved in the other party’s claim).  This will give you a no claims status which will allow you to have one claim as a “bonus” claim that won’t affect your insurance.  This will only cover minor claims but you may find it useful.

Shop around, get quotes from various companies, and seek out the best coverage you can get – who knows, maybe you already have it.
