Drivers operate motor vehicles along the left side of roadways, but steering wheels are typically on the left side (common for drive-on-the-right locations). English is the official language. However, a local dialect of Creole is spoken by many natives.The region's traditional cuisine is hearty and spicy. The main food staple is fungi, which is pronounced fun-gee. It consists of cornmeal boiled into a thick paste with okra, and is usually eaten with fish. Callaloo is a thick stew made from callaloo leaves, okra and a variety of meat. Roti is another popular native dish. It is made from curried vegetables and meat wrapped in very thin dough. Local fruits include tamarinds, genip, sea grapes, papaya, soursop, mango and sugar apples. Bush tea is the most popular local drink. It's an herbal tea made from native plants, such as lemongrass, and served hot.The main religion is Christianity, especially Roman Catholic. As on many Caribbean islands, there is also a contingent of Rastafari.
