Making Deep Fried Turkey For Thanksgiving

Making a deep fried turkey can be safe and easy if you just follow a few safety tips.

October is a great time to have a practice session making deep fried turkey before the big event at Thanksgiving. If you've never deep fried a turkey before, but you want to do one, then it's certainly a wise move to practice first. By practicing well ahead of time then your family won't be tired of turkey when Thanksgiving rolls around.

Go dig out the turkey fryer from the attic, basement or garage. Then clean and polish it so it's ready to use. Haven't got one yet? That's okay. You can find many, many different kinds either online on in the stores. Next buy some oil (peanut oil is the best but check if anyone has a peanut allergy) Start looking for some good dry rub seasoning recipes that you might like to use with your turkey.

So, on to the practice run. You don't really want to wait until the pressure of Thanksgiving Day to try deep frying a turkey for the first time. It's a time to be thankful for your good fortune, friends and family. It's not the time to be worrying about whether or not you've covered everything so you can cook the turkey properly.

If you've conquered just how to deep fry a turkey well in advance of Thanksgiving, you'll have much more confidence. You'll be working with five gallons of boiling oil so, trust me, you want that confidence level.

Preparing the equipment should also include things like making sure you have a full tank of propane and also making sure you have a working fire extinguisher handy. Now get together all the necessary equipment as well as your gloves and goggles. Keep everything you need together. You don't want to have to go searching for stuff when you're preparing the Thanksgiving meal.

Don't forget that when you deep fry your turkey there aren't going to be any drippings you can use to make gravy. So you need to decide how you're going to make gravy. You can always use the turkey neck and giblets as a base for the gravy. Or you can take the easy route and use a ready-made gravy. A deep fried turkey is very moist but you'll still want gravy for your mashed potatoes, so it's best to plan ahead.
