Sitting of log cabins in the middle of the green open space under an open blue sky is really very nice and attractive constructions as like a beautiful picture. Log cabins have the virtue of attraction that charms people. They have very simple structures and now it is found all over the world because both in urban and rural areas where wood has been readily available. It is true that at first log cabins were constructed in the Northern part of Europe, around 3500BC. In USA, Germany, Russia where the construction was started in later.

 

The construction style of log cabins varies from one part of the world to another. The gable style and purling style are two common styles of log cabins which are classified on the basis of the style of roofs. Log cabin was begun constructed elaborately in the middle of the 18th century, which style was known as the Adirondack style. A number of the Adirondack style log cabin began to be constructed as a part of the United State park service at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

 

The construction of log cabin is very simple; generally it is built with logs horizontally piled on top of one another. A cabin cannot be picked on a random basis and logs are used for building. It has to select carefully because logs with only a few knots are preferred; so that logs can be smoothed easily with a bit of whittling.

It ensures that the gaps between the logs must be small as much as possible.

 

The availability of logs and that of labor were two the most important factors that affected of the size of the log cabin in many years ago. The cabin size would have to be restricted, if logs were not available in the vicinity of the site. At the same way if labor was not available, again the cabin size would have to be restricted.

 

However, today log cabins have been constructed so simply by the availability of ready-to-erect log cabin kits. Though it is easier and cheaper to construct but such cabins have same look and feel as traditional log cabins. Nowadays do not need to collect various materials from different places for constructions, because they readily available. Log cabin kits are now widely more preferable to the people all over the world for their advantages.

 

Log cabins were built also by travelers to stay not for permanent dwellings. They used it as residences for passing time. Many people use log cabins as an extension of their house such as an office, playrooms and as a place of relaxation.
