Why Growing Herbs Outside is so Rewarding.

This article shows examples of why growing herbs outside can be so rewarding. There are many areas of herb gardening and each one has its own benefits such as medicinal, culinary and decorative and these each in their own right can be very rewarding  financially and  in other ways

We tend to think of herb gardening as an outdoor past time but more and more people are growing herbs indoors now. This does not mean that outdoor herb gardening is dying off but simply that people want a different type garden than the more traditional one of growing herbs outside.

There are many reasons for growing the herbs outdoors as opposed to indoors and I suppose the main one is that you can grow a lot more herbs both in variety and types outside than you ever can indoors. They can be grown mixed with traditional flower beds or vegetable plots to make them look and smell fantastic or as a companion plant to help with pest control. I will be looking at companion plants in a further article.

One thing to consider though when growing herbs outside is that perennials and biennials are the best to grow as herbs die a lot more easily out of their own growing season and these types will survive much longer than annuals do.

The one good thing about herb gardening is that it does not have to cost you a lot of money to do. Just check out first which herbs you need to plant that can be both useful and decorative to and you will save yourself a small fortune rather than buying them from the supermarkets.

One of the best sidelines of herb gardening these days is in the medicinal herb sector where herbs are grown for their medicinal properties and in this modern day of alternative medicines and natural remedies herbal medicines do come into their own. There are numerous books and websites available that will give you lists of herbs and their medicinal uses and this too can save you a small fortune in expensive medications and supplements as you can simply grow them in your own garden. The benefit is of course no side effects and no synthetic manufactured drugs going into your body which to most is a big, big bonus.

A major benefit of growing herbs outside is the relief of stress and anxiety problems and the aroma and simply gardening alone can have a great effect in reducing stress and anxiety without the use of drugs.

There are many reasons why people prefer natural remedies over the synthetic ones but basically it boils down to.

Accessibility- a lot if not all of medicinal herbal remedies can be bought over the counter and this is useful in an emergency situation where you may otherwise have to wait to see a Doctor and get a prescription at cost to you.

Price- The cost of herbal remedies is a fraction of the cost of the synthetic drugs and as most herbal remedies have no side effects they can be used for longer periods than synthetic drugs.

Historically- People find that historically herbal remedies have been used for centuries to treat ailments and are proven to help making people feel more comfortable using them over untried synthetic drugs.

One thing you must always do though is to consult your Doctor or G.P. if you are ill as they are the experts and have a full knowledge of medicinal remedies available to you. Remembering also that some people are allergic to some plants and you need to check first before taking any medicine, herbal or synthetic so by visiting your G.P. or Doctor you will be a whole lot safer in your choices of remedies to take.

This is why growing herbs outside is so rewarding to most herb gardeners as you have a wonderful supply of herbs readily available to use for a variety of uses in the home, medicinalFree Reprint Articles, culinary or simply decorative. The choice is yours.
