Acne is a common skin disease that causes pimples. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. The exact cause of acne stays to be unknown, although doctors believe it results from several related factors.

Everyone can experience acne, however,  it is common in teenagers and young adults, because at this age oil sebaceous glands come to life, stimulated by male hormones from the adrenal glands of both boys and girls.

Anyway, the exact cause of acne stays to be unknown, although doctors believe it results from several related factors. Some studies show that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents.

But this cause is not considered as the primary one. In most cases people suggest that acne results from bad nutrition, poor hygiene or stress, but it is far from the reality.

Acne does not come from eating a lot of so-called bad foods such as chocolate or greasy foods. No doubt, these foods may not be good for overall health, but there is little evidence that they cause acne or make it worse. In this case, bad skin is probably caused just by the lack of vitamins.

Bad hygiene cannot lead to skin disorder as well, so blackheads and pimples are not caused by dirt.

The interaction between the body's hormones, skin protein, skin secretions, and bacteria determines the cause of acne. So, acne is likely to occur before menstruation, during pregnancy, and menopause. According to other researches, acne is often related to a condition of toxicity in the intestines or liver. The skin disorder can be a side effect of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, and anabolic steroids as well. Very often it can result from using bad skin care products or cosmetics. In fact, scrubbing the skin too hard or cleansing with harsh soaps or chemicals irritates the skin and can make acne worse.
