However, with the right kind of acne care products you can survive without worries.. Choosing the right skin care products for acne can become a daunting task, but if you know what ingredients would be most effective for your skin, the choice becomes more clear.

Here are some popular acne-fighting ingredients:

Benzoyl Peroxide
A natural antibacterial and antiseptic element, benzoyl peroxide eliminates the P. acnes bacteria on the skin surface thereby reducing acne. It breaks up the dead skin cells and dries excess oil residues within the skin cells.

Benzoyl peroxide often tends to irritate the skin and make it flaky. Therefore, it’s always advisable to apply a nourishing moisturizer along with skin care products that contain benzoyl peroxide. In fact, start with a lower strength product and graduate to a higher concentration based on your skin’s reaction to it. It is available in strengths from 2.5 to about 10 per cent.

It makes an excellent choice for people with oily skin, especially teenagers and others who need strong and potent acne treatment solutions. However, if you have sensitive skin that is easily irritated or becomes extremely dry, you should avoid products that contain benzoyl peroxide. People with combination skin should use benzoyl peroxide only on the oily T-zone area while using a less aggressive product on the cheek areas. It can also be used as a spot treatment very well.

Salicylic Acid
Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxy acid that aids in normalizing the shedding of dead skin cells that are a primary cause of oily and acne-prone skin. If you don’t exfoliate dead skin cells from your face, they tend to combine with sebum particles and clog the skin pores causing acne.

Salicylic acid works best for people with dry and sensitive skin that need a gentle acne treatment. However, if you are allergic to aspirin, you should avoid using salicylic acid products because it contains a compound similar to aspirin.

Glycolic Acid
An alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid refines the skin texture by dissolving dead skin cells and accelerating the regeneration of new and healthier skin. It helps shed off the dead skin cells from the skin surface preventing it from combining with oil and dirt particles and clogging skin pores causing acne breakouts. Glycolic acid also improves the efficiency of other skin care products that you may be using and moisturizes the skin to make it glow with radiance.

Glycolic acid is particularly good for combating adult acne and also reduces fine lines and wrinkles. However, avoid using it if you are pregnant or have very sensitive skin. It is a very powerful ingredient and can cause irritations and reactions if not used properly.
