This is part 2 of a 2 part series and we started out by discussing just some of the ways children may be exposed to chemicals and one method in aiding the detoxification of them is through Epsom salt baths. If you know that you’ve had an acute exposure to chemicals,Autism Treatment – Chemical Exposure, Treatments and Autism Part 2 of 2 Articles if someone is spraying their yard or maybe in your neighborhood for example, then daily Epsom salt baths for the next 7 to 10 days would be my suggestion. And then for children on an ongoing maintenance basis I usually recommend an Epsom salt bath 3 to 4 times each week.

I always recommend that you start very slow if your child has never had an Epsom salt bath before. That means starting off with adding just a little because some children have more sensitive skin and the water will become a little salty. So even one half cup would be very helpful in their bath, especially if you are not sure how they may react to it or if they have very sensitive skin. From there you can begin to increase it, for most kids I would recommend between 2 to 3 cups per bath and do this 3 to 4 times per week. And if you would like to do it more frequently than the 3 to 4 times per week you can, it certainly is not harmful for them.

And now we are heading into summer time and warmer whether and depending on where you live, many children enjoy swimming. I certainly encourage any outdoor activity, especially swimming but that means they will be exposed to chlorine. And one way to aid in the detoxification of it is to put them into an Epsom salt bath, if you have access to a bathtub. If you do not have access to a bath you can use an Epsom salt cream. You can find Epsom salt cream through New Beginnings and you rub between a teaspoon and two teaspoons, depending on the size of your child, onto their back, arms, abdomen, etc. You do this after swimming and it can be repeated a couple of times each day. So this provides another option in addition to the Epsom salt baths as a way to get more magnesium sulfate into your child to aid in the detoxification of chemicals.
