Reasons to Wear a Bra:

You get the support that you need while your body is healing and everything settles into the proper place. Some even believe that wearing a bra from the very beginning can assist with positive, long-term results.

Even after recovery, some plastic surgeons suggest that a bra be worn at all times expect in the shower. At night, while sleeping they recommend that the patient sleep in a sports bra at the very least. They believe this will help maintain the results of the surgery ensuing that a patient is happy with the decision to undergo a breast augmentation even after a year or two has passed.

Reasons Not to Wear a Bra:
Some women and physicians see the recovery bra as unnecessary. Patients go home immediately following the surgery without any type of support. In this case, patients are kept comfortable while they recover without the constructions of a bra.

Others see the bra as a real problem. For many, it adds to the discomfort and can cause irritation around the incisions. If wearing it isn't necessary or recommended, women avoid bras especially when sleeping.

Which Option is Correct?
At this point, there is no one study that is considered to be an authority in this area. If you are planning a breast augmentation in the near future, the best option is to follow the advice of your plastic surgeon. He or she has experience and knows what has worked best for patients in the past.

If you have concerns about what the doctor suggests, take time to ask questions about why they recommend that you spend most of your day in the bra or why they do not see the need for one. If you don't agree with the surgeon's recommendation, consider looking for a doctor that more closely meets your expectations as far as recovery and maintaining your new look when it comes to breast augmentation.
