Breast augmentation is one of the most popular elective cosmetic surgeries in the United States. It is currently a very popular high school graduation gift. It seems that in a society obsessed with youth and beauty and sex appeal,Breast Augmentation For Your Teenage Princess Articles women are willing to pay any price for fuller, firmer, higher-sitting breasts. The FDA did finally approve the silicone gel implant for use in nearly everyone in the U.S., even though many people still believe they are terribly unsafe. Silicone gel leaking into the body can be very dangerous, and it can have lasting health effects. Combine these dangers with the distorted body image in a girl not yet eighteen, and you have a real cause for concern.

When I was in high school back in the 1980’s, I knew four girls who had breast augmentation surgery. Today, young girls are having this surgery much more often than most people believe. In today’s beauty-obsessed culture, teenaged girls are having this surgery so often that it has become almost normal. It is considered almost as normal as getting your teeth whitened! The subject of whether this is really a safe surgery or even a good idea for these young girls is still up for much debate.

The current medical guidelines recommend that a patient be at least eighteen years of age before getting breast augmentation. This is only a recommendation, however, because there is no law which states that a girl must be eighteen before she has this procedure. Many parents are paying for their young daughters to have breast implants because it is legal. Is this wise? Is this safe? There are a number of reasons why it may be a bad idea.

Another good reason to wait a while before getting breast augmentation: allowing the body to finish its natural development. The breasts continue to grow and develop into a woman’s twenties. This means that a girl of seventeen who is unhappy with her appearance can realistically expect that she will further develop and that she may very well be happy with her natural appearance. If she has breast augmentation surgery too soon, she will never know her true size and shape. For this reason, many surgeons recommend that a girl wait until she has developed completely before she makes the decision to have breast augmentation.

Studies have proven that as boys and girls enter their teen years, they are often unhappy with their bodies. As teens get older, they become increasingly pleased with their bodies and become more accepting of their physical appearance. This is one of many reasons for a girl to wait until she is at least eighteen years old before she makes the drastic decision to surgically alter her body.

Another good reason to wait before having breast augmentation surgery is safety-related. Between twenty and thirty percent of people have complications with their implants within four years of having the surgery, thus requiring corrective surgery. Additionally, breast implants must be replaced every ten tears. A high school girl who gets breast augmentation surgery could easily have three breast-related surgeries before the age of twenty five!

Only some of the very important reasons to wait before having breast augmentation surgery are listed above. You should always consult a surgeon before you make any surgery-related decision. A good surgeon will know whether or not the surgery is safe for a teenage girl. He will be able to advise you with your plastic-surgery related decisions.
