Breast augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery that is ranked as one of the most common procedures among women. The gynecologist will look at your bosom and may take pictures to put in your medical history. He will then look at things such as the size and shape of your breasts, how your nipples are placed as well as the quality of your skin. If you have breasts that are no longer firm and they sag, you may also need a lift in addition to the breast augmentation. During the consultation, you and your surgeon will go over your medical history including any medications you are taking, including vitamins and OTC medications, any allergies you have to medication, any medical conditions you may currently have as well as what previous surgeries you have had. Once you have decided to have a breast augmentation done, your doctor will have you do a few things in order to prepare for the procedure. If you currently smoke, your doctor will have you stop smoking before your surgery. If you are taking any anti-inflammatory medication or aspirin you will be asked to stop taking those as well. On the day of your procedure you will be given medications to help you relax and some anesthesia, depending on what you and your doctor choose, it could be general or local anesthesia. Once the procedure is complete, you will wake up in the recovery room where nurses and other medical staff will monitor you and your vitals. Your chest area will be wrapped in gauze bandages. As long as there are no complications, you can expect to go home within several hours. It is important that you have someone to drive you home and stay with you the first few days following your surgery.
