Plastic surgery has made major changes in the world we live in. Not only is it helping people every day overcome and improve their self esteem by giving them the bodies and faces they always wanted,Breast Augmentation: Things You Didn’t Know Articles it has made several impressive medical breakthroughs when it comes to guiding people past disfiguring diseases and injuries and back into a normal way of life. The most popular form of plastic surgery is the breast augmentation. Here we’ll take a fun look at five things you probably didn’t know about this interesting and ubiquitous surgery.

Asymmetry
Many people don’t know this, but almost all women have some degree of asymmetry in their chest. One is slightly larger than the other. For some women, this irregularity is barely perceptible, especially to others. For other women, however, this disparate size is very noticeable and it is a cause of much consternation and shame. Breast augmentation is often performed for the sole reason of correcting this size differential. Some women may choose to take this time to go bigger, but the size difference is what brings them into the office.

Age
It is a common misconception that breast augmentation is a surgery for the young. While many women in their 20s and even late teens are having the procedure, the bulk of the surgeries are done on women in their thirties. Not that 35 is old, by any means, but it certainly goes against the common “knowledge” that women tend to get their implants at an earlier age.

Under United States federal guidelines, all women are approved for cosmetic chest enhancement once they have reached the age of 18. For those wanting to go with silicone implants, the age is 22. While this is uniform, exceptions can be made for those girls who wish to have reconstruction done due to birth defect, cancer, or another type of disfiguring incident.

Nourishment
For a long time, there was concern in the medical community about how implants could affect a woman’s ability to feed her child naturally. These fears are unfounded. In fact, there have been studies done that found higher levels of silicone in the formula sold on the shelves of the grocery store than in the milk of a woman who has had breast augmentation.

Top Of The Heap
Onlookers might imagine the U.S. to be the breast augmentation capital of the world. Like most things we make assumptions about, this one turns out to be wrong. In fact, China performs more surgeries than any other country, putting it ahead of the U.S. and other countries in which plastic surgery is popular.
