If the inside of your implant has been contaminated before it has been inserted, there is a chance the bacteria can grow inside your implant. Using a qualified, experienced doctor who practices in sterile surroundings and uses sterile equipment will decrease your risks for these types of infections. It is also important that you follow the doctor's instructions after the surgery, and take all recommended medication.

You should also ask your doctor for copies of brochures that discuss studies associated with implants. The manufacturers of the implants have brochures with information about the implants as well. Your doctor most likely has sample implants that you can feel, so you will get an idea of how they will feel inside your body. Feel free to ask your doctor about the different types of implants.
