Breast Augmentation: Why Many Women Want It

Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure that women (and some men) usually undergo in order to improve the appearance of their breasts. This is actually the primary reason why there is a clamor for this type of plastic surgery – aesthetics – but there are different aesthetic reasons for doing it. Necessity for it is usually related to mental health of the patient which is actually more important that appearances.

Physical Changes

There are many factors that contribute to physical changes to a woman's body that may warrant breast augmentation. Weight loss and pregnancy are just two of these physical changes that may affect the appearance of a woman's chest. These factors are known to change the appearance of breasts in a way that they may sag or be distorted. This can be especially disheartening for many women, and they may wish to have the surgery to get back to their previous physical state where their breasts were fuller or rounder. The reason why weight loss can affect chest appearance is because bosoms are mostly made up of fat. The fat that the women may want to lose may start from the breasts instead of the areas where she wants to lose it in. Targeting specific areas to lose weight is difficult and there is little that a woman can do about it. On the other hand, pregnancy can basically alter the shape and appearance of the breasts to an extent that they look deflated or emptied.

Birth Deformities

Some women are born with deformities to their chests such as asymmetrical or uneven breasts. This is not a rare phenomenon and many with this seek to have this corrected or changed as soon as they possibly can. Having small breasts is one of the main factors that women want a breast augmentation operation. Many are not well endowed genetically and they wish to have fuller or rounder breasts. Other may also have bosoms that are shaped differently and they wish these to appear fuller and rounder. These are not actually deformities but they are usually genetic and there is little that can be done, other than receive a surgical procedure, to alter them.

Diseases or Trauma

Cancer is one of the leading reasons why a woman may need to have one or both breasts taken out. Breast augmentation can actually bring back the form of the chest. Many women feel incomplete after a mastectomy and even with artificial means, they may feel better. In this aspect, aesthetics may play a secondary role in the need for the augmenting procedure. This is because a person's well being and mental health is a greater priority than looks and appearances. Confidence and self esteem can also be related to this.

Size and Shape

Dissatisfaction with the current size and shape of her breasts may actually be the only reason why a woman may go for breast augmentation. In this case, the factors that affect the procedure are still the same as the other reasons. This is actually the reason used by the majority of the women who undergo the operation.
