Breast implants have created debates from their first use. Many consider them to be a materialistic object in a materialistic world. This may very well be true,Breast Implants Spark Debates Articles but whether or not that is considered a bad thing, these negative debates have overshadowed the benefits of breast augmentation. Breast augmentations are more than just a form of vane cosmetic surgery, they also serve as a valid prosthetic for such patients as breast cancer survivors. While it is still debatable about their place in the objectivity of women, they are no doubt a tool in the recovery of womanhood after traumatic events.

Still, knowledge should be gained and care taken in the decision to obtain the augmentation and in the events following the process. It is said that 'knowledge is power' and the decision to get a breast implant, along with the care after the decision, creates no exception. The first question that should be asked may seem a simple one, but it is essential. What exactly is a breast implant? First of all, it should be known that it is a prosthesis. Like all other prosthesis it needs care and upkeep. A patient should have their implants checked on by a professional at varying interludes to assure their functionality and safety. The second question that should be asked is: why get them?

Breast implants are intended to correct the size, feel, and/or form of a woman's breast. The reasons for 'imperfections' in a woman's natural breast may vary and include anything from genetics to mastectomies. A doctor can help a patient evaluate the necessity of a breast implant, though necessity is not always a factor in decision making. When is the surgery considered less necessary and more cosmetic? Most breast implants are not necessary, but can definitely bring emotional positivity to a person. The matter of necessity is purely a judgment based on patient/doctor opinion. What types are there? There are three main types of breast implants. One type is made of a rubbery form of silicone filled with a salt/water solution. Another type is filled with alternative fillers, or liquid solutions of varying ingredients. On top of feminine breast implants, there are also pectoral implants for men. How, basically, do doctors insert the breast implant? A doctor makes an incision, usually in the crease under the breast, or pectoral muscle, and uses a tissue expander to create a pocket in which to insert the prosthetic. Like most medical situations, the best doctor for care is the patient. That is, the patient should be sure to schedule and keep all suggested appointments, as well as maintaining at-home care. The patient should take care to follow all wound care instructions as closely as possible and follow all other advice given by the doctor.
