Buttocks augmentation is a form of plastic surgery that is designed to help shape,Buttocks Augmentation Facts Articles contour and enlarge your buttocks. There are two types of buttock augmentation surgeries available. Patients can either select the more traditional implant surgery where implants, much like breast implants, are placed in the buttocks, or patients can select a method known as Brazilian buttock fill in which a fat graft technique is used. Both methods carry their own advantages and disadvantages and the method that is best for you will depend on a variety of factors.

Both methods carry the risk of bleeding, infection and an adverse reaction to anesthesia. Ideal candidates for the procedure should be at least 18 years of age or older, in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations for the surgical results.
Patients who have implants inserted run a higher risk for infection due to the nature of the area where the implants are inserted. In order to insert implants your surgeon will create a pocket and insert the implants under the gluteus maximus muscle of the butt.

It can be harder to keep the incision area clean due to its location, but scarring is generally minimal and blends in with the natural contour of the butt which is why the incisions are generally done in this area. This type of augmentation is preferable to patients despite the higher risk of infection because the results can be more controlled and guaranteed than they can be with fat grafting.

Fat grafting carries less risk for infection since no incisions need to be made. Instead fat, grafted from other areas of the body are purified and then injected into the buttocks to achieve the desired results. Most surgeons will harvest the fat from your body so there is no introduction of anything foreign to your body that can cause complications. The disadvantage to this method however is fat will travel and settle where it may not be intended to go instead of where it is injected. Another disadvantage to this method is an unequal settling of fat in one butt check causing disproportional results

After surgery, patients should expect to have a few days of down time from normal activities and several weeks of down time for physical activities. Patients who under go implantation should also expect to have stitches for a week to a week and a half and run the risk of infection during this time period if the stitches are not kept clean.
After swelling subsides in a few weeks, patients can see the end results of the surgical procedure. The overall price for the procedure will vary depending on a variety of factors including the geographic area, and which method is selected. The estimated cost for implants is around $9,000 to $16,000 and the Brazilian butt fill method generally is from $9,000 to $18,000.
