Cellulite treatment can be seen on the shelves of your local drugstore,Cellulite Treatment: Fighting The Fat Articles on TV infomercials late at night, and in the office of the area plastic surgeon. But do any of these techniques, procedures, lotions, pills, or workout videos really do anything? Before you spend your money, it makes a lot of sense to find out which treatments are scientifically valid and which ones are just out there with the purpose of separating you from your hard earned money.

First of all, it’s important to understand what it is we’re working with. Cellulite treatment products are designed to target a very specific kind of fat. This fat, which is much more common in women than it is in men, creates a rippling effect in the skin. It is commonly seen in the buttocks and the thighs, though it can appear nearly everywhere. Why it is so much more common in women is a matter not entirely settled, though it may have to do with estrogen as well as the fact that women have connective tissue that isn’t as strong and therefore more susceptible to being pushed into the skin by the fat. Speaking of fat, you don’t have to be overweight to have a problem with this condition. Even skinny women and highly fit models have been known to deal with it.

Having said that, there is a correlation between gaining weight and gaining cellulite. Treatment, therefore, typically gets no better than to simply work on your dieting and exercise routine. Keeping your calories low and your exercise vigorous will not only benefit your overall weight and health, it will be your best weapon in the fight against that unsightly dimpling fat. That’s not to say you won’t have issues even when you get to your maximum condition, but it does mean you’ve done all you can do to naturally decrease the problem.

So what do you do when all of your natural options have run out? You still have possibilities. First things first, however, you must disavow yourself of any notion that an OTC pill or cream is going to do anything for the problem. None of these products have been shown to work, so you might as well buy a cheap moisturizer off the rack if all you want to do is throw away your money. At least you’ll get some side benefits from the moisturizer. If you want cellulite treatment that works, you’ll need to talk to a plastic surgeon or a medical spa outfitted for scientific procedures that can really help decrease or eliminate the problem. Laser procedures and technology such as Velashape have proven very effective and could be your ticket to a new body.
