Cellulite treatment isn’t something exclusive to women,Cellulite Treatment: Preventing The Scourge Articles but it affects them much more than it does most men. For whatever reason (and many studies have looked into estrogen as being a possible factor), women are typically plagued with the unsightly, lumpy cottage cheese effect of unfortunately placed fat more so than most men. Because of this, quite an industry has popped up, with everything from creams to lotions to pills guaranteeing a way to get rid of it. Of course, the best method of offense is a good defense, right? Sadly, even prevention is a difficult sell in this situation.

Most cellulite treatment solutions are designed to get rid of those collections of fat that are stored in the cells directly beneath the skin. They have a tendency to press on some of the connective tissues, which is what causes that rippling effect that so many people find undesirable. While it is a common problem among the overweight, they are far from the only people afflicted by it. Older women tend to be the biggest target, but there is a sizable percentage of teenagers who are struggling with it as well. This ubiquitous presence is what has baffled researchers for the longest time and is probably why there are so few effective ways to prevent or get rid of it.

Many medical studies have come to the conclusion that if you’re genetically prone to get cellulite, then it will happen, regardless of what you do. There is no prevention method that can offer you a failsafe protection from the condition. However, while there may be no prevention for the unfortunate individuals who are predestined to get it, there are ways to prevent it if you are not so unfortunate. And even for those who are, there are certainly ways to minimize the damage.

Exercise is your number one prevention-based cellulite treatment. Lifting weights, getting plenty of cardio (running, jogging, elliptical, playing sports, etc.), and even static exercise such as yoga can play a major role in crafting the body of your desires. In conjunction with this, it is important to eat a balanced, healthy diet that does not exceed your caloric demands. This means figuring out how many calories you need to sustain your weight, taking your age, gender, and activity level into consideration, and eating only enough that you meet that caloric level. When you exceed it, you will gain weight. Gaining weight doesn’t always mean getting cellulite, but in many cases one will lead to the other.

When it comes to cellulite treatment after the fact, leave the snake oil behind and treat yourself to modern science. Go to a medical spa or a plastic surgeon and ask them about the latest methods of treatment. It may be costly, but it will be far more effective than anything you can pick up on the shelves of your local drugstore.
